Service Description

Airport baggage systems have traditionally been a manual process below the wing. The transportation system (traditionally conveyors) have remained mostly static for many years with relatively minor advancements in transport and sortation technologies making modest improvements to the baggage handling process. During this time the wider materials handling industry has advanced substantially with highly complex automation.

Auto Bag Drop changed the front of house equation and is now widely adopted across the industry. Qantas lead the way with the development of their Next Generation Check In Auto Bag Drop system and wide distribution of RFID across the local Australian market. Now virtually all airport expansion works contain discussion around at least some form of self-service check in systems.

Below the wing however has been significantly more difficult, however we are now seeing a step-change in thinking by leading airports.

New technologies have been and are being released that allow a completely different concept of operations for airport baggage handling systems. We no longer think of bag stores as early bag stores but enablers of alternative operational concepts.

We no longer consider a baggage system a baggage system, but an airport materials handling system capable to transporting baggage, freight, terminal deliveries and even waste.

Our process is to analyse the airport's operation and design the best material handling system for that terminal using the best selection of available technologies to deliver a highly robust and cost effective solution.
