PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In 2019 AvLogix were appointed by Western Sydney Airport to provide baggage handling system design services for their new airport.

The Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, is a greenfield airport in Sydney’s new western Parkland City region.

It is the largest and most ambitious aviation project currently underway in Australia.

Cox Architecture and Zaha Hadid Architects were appointed as Master Architect to provide overarching design for the entire airport precinct and prepare design documents for the first phase of the state-of-the-art terminal precinct.

This project involved the analysis and applicability of various new and emerging smart and sustainable technologies and their applicability to the baggage handling process..

The design also considered the airport smart technology interfaces throughout the terminal and involved infrastructure planning and coordination with all stakeholders including business departments, consultant teams, architects, engineers and suppliers.

The engagement commenced as the terminal architectural design was being refined which required several redesign exercises to support the many terminal layout options being considered.

Design works included implementation strategies to cater for progressive expansion to ensure that the airport has a long-term plan for continued growth.

Terminal construction will commence in 2021 with the first flight planned for 2026.
